Read in todays The Hindu that college students damaged a public transport bus. If we look at this incident in a broad perspective it boils down to an issue of recognition. This is where most of the youngsters falter. Since I have lived in Chennai I have observed the attitude of college students. The only thing that goes on in each guys mind is he is a star.
He assumes each girl looking at him is in love with him. He thinks he can do anything. He thinks irritating others is a way to show his strength. This is not only an issue with college student this is an issue with most of the youth.
The moment an youth is in a known group the yearning for recognition among the group grows and his confident level peaks. You can observe this in the group which gets into a public transport bus or electric trains. The moment they get in they start talking in louder voice, they laugh for silly jokes like hyenas and they start drumming and singing a pathetic song. This way they feel they are estabilishing a supremety over others. If they are not in a group they will be silent once they are in a group everyone in the group becomes a King. That too if a girl is happened to be in the same compartment or bus their atrocity increases.
Why does this happen? Yearning for a girl or recognition is high at this age. It is not wrong but the way they express it by smashing buses by shouting in public by making fun of others is wrong. They do it because they care two hoots about their future. A guy who cares for his future wont be part of such an atrocious group.
Another important factor which leads to such issues is lack of control by Police. Police target only the weak and meek. Very rarely they question the strong. Police is like a fool with mainframe. They never use their power to the fullest.
There is no point in me shouting in this blog. It is not even going to reach out to 10 people. The whole system is corrupted.
