Gandhi Jayanthi

October 2nd. Today is Gandhi Jayanthi. What comes to our mind when we hear the name Gandhi? A simple man. A great man. The man who single handedly got freedom for India from the hands of British. Some of them even compare Gandhi to GOD.

Except for the comparison to GOD all other things must have been true. Otherwise he wouldnt be having such a following but in India we cannot judge anything based on the number of followers. In India every Tom, Dick and Harry has huge number of followers. The only difference is for some reason even the world accept Gandhi as a great man. Sometimes the world does succumb to external pressure but in this case there should be some truth not just pressure.

Yes Gandhi alone didnt get us freedom. Lot of unknown people gave their life for freedom. Do we celebrate their birthdays? If we start celebrating everyones birthday then we may end up having to celebrate all 365 days.

So let us consider this day Oct 2nd as a common day for remembering the birthdays of all those who fought for India's freedom.

Should we celebrate birthdays? Thats entirely a different topic.

Very true. I remember my reply for a post on CHN General on jan 30 this year.
The post read, "Lets pay tribute to this man who single handedly got freedom for India"

I replied exactly the same as in this blog. Actually i couldnt stand such posts. Makes me itchy.
