Inception

The above title doesn't need any introduction in the internet world but I was not as impressed by the movie as the most of the fans around the world.

First reason I couldn't gel with this movie is a person doesn't dream always so its not like you can make me sleep and come into my dream just like that. If they had told its like entering into the other persons mind then that makes sense.

Anyways Nolan sets up lot of his own rules and moves the story within those rules. There so much left to the viewers interpretation. When you watch a movie at the end of it there should be a satisfaction that you understood whatever happened in the movie but when Inception was over I only had lot of questions.

When I search the net for answers and talk to people who said the movie was a masterpiece everyone has their own interpretation. There can be intelligent movies but it shouldn't become like I should watch the movie and then read a book to understand what happened in the movie.

I felt the movie dragged a lot and had many subplots to confuse the viewer.

Again I find a set of reviewers who drag names like Kubrick, Spielberg to say how great a movie that Nolan has made. I can only feel these people just go with the world and lack views of their own. Kubrick's movies or Lynch's movies are not likable movies they are just open ended movies which are difficult to understand but these so called reviewers quote Kubrick and Lynch at the drop of a hat as if they have understood all their works.

Inception like movies will only give birth to lot of fake intellectuals.

This blog is not a criticism about the movie as I don't think I can review this movie as I have far too many open questions. This blog is about all those so called reviewers who keep praising this movie without even understanding anything about this movie.

Enthiran

Wanted to listen to the songs in my own CD so avoided listening in FM and mp3s which were available from 30th.

Today bought the CD from Landmark Spencer plaza.

Here is my experience on listening to Enthiran songs for the first time.

The first song Puthiya Manitha started with a electronic voice and went on as some school prayer. I was kind of hoping for some exciting opening but the starting was quite contrary to my expectations and slowly SPBs voice started and I could see myself falling into the rhythm but before I could enjoy it fully the music was over.

I fast forwarded the next song Kadhal Anukal as I read that it was a melody as I wanted a fast beat song.

Next song Irumbil oru Idhayam had some heavy beats but I couldnt gel into the song.

The next song was just music Chitti dance and again I was not impressed.

Then came the song of the album Arima Arima I was totally mesmerised by the song awesome song. I liked Hariharans voice with full energy.

The song that followed Kilmenjaro is a very jolly song enjoyed it thoroughly on the first listening itself.

The next song that followed was Boom Boom Robot da which was again with different beats but I couldnt gel with it in my first listening.

But as I continued listening to the songs they are growing within me and the first song Puthiya Manitha is awesome. Irumbil oru Idhayam, Chitti, Boom Boom Robot and Kadhal Anukaal are also slowly getting into me.

Overall a very good album.

As of now I rate the songs as follows

1) Arima Arima
2) Puthiya Manitha
3) Kilmenjaro
4) Irumbil oru Idhayam
5) All other songs

But I m sure after repeated hearing the order might change.

The Descent

Are you a fan of horror movies? Are you a fan of adventure movies? If yes then this is one movie which you shouldn't miss.

It's about a group of six women who go on a cave expedition and the problems they have to face there.

The dialogues feels silly at times expecially the few initial scenes the women spend in the cabin. Also during the end of the movie comes a scene which many might feel is not justified. I too felt the same about the scene. There are times when one women or other does the same mistake which many do in horror movies like doing something which they weren't supposed to do. If we can overlook these two things the movie is just awesome.


Many scenes made me feel claustraphopic, many scenes brings us to the edge of our seat. I was not bored even for a second we keep wishing that the women come out safely as they keep facing one problem after another.

Overall its an awesome movie.

சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு ஒரு நெருங்கிய உறவினர் ஒருவருடைய இறுதி சடங்குக்கு செல்ல வேண்டியிருந்தது. அவரின் உடலை ஒரு வாகனத்தில் வைத்து எடுத்து சென்றனர் அதன் பின்னே எங்கள் வாகனம் சென்றது. சுடுகாடை அடைந்ததும் அவரின் உடலை சுமந்து கொண்டு உள்ளே சென்றனர். வெகு நாட்களுக்கு பிறகு ஒரு இறுதி சடங்கை மிக அருகில் இருந்து பார்த்தேன்.

அங்கே இருந்த அதிகாரிகள் நாங்கள் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட நேரத்திற்கு முன்பாகவே உடலை கொண்டு வந்துவிட்டதாக கூறி எங்களை சற்று காத்திருக்க சொன்னார்கள். எங்களுக்கு முன்னரி இரு உடல்கள் தகனம் செய்யப்பட வேண்டும் என்று கூறி விட்டார்கள்.உடலை சற்றி ஓரமாக வைத்துவிட்டு அனைவரும் காத்திருக்க தொடங்கினோம் அந்த இரு உடல்களுக்கும்.

அந்த சுடுகாட்டில் புதைக்கும் இடமும் இருந்தது எரிக்கும் இடமும் இருந்தது. புதைக்கும் இடம் நம் ஊருக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக முற்றிலும் பராமரிக்கப்படாமல் இருந்தது. எரிக்கும் இடம் ஒரு மிக பிரமாண்டமான கட்டிடமாக கட்டப்பட்டிருந்தது. ஒரு பெரிய புகை கூண்டு இருந்தது. அந்த இடத்தில் நாங்கள் ஒரு பெரிய கூட்டமாயிருந்தும் ஒரு வித அமானுஷ்யமான அமைதி நிலவியது. ஒவ்வொரு மூலையிலும் ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய சோகம் ஒரு விதமான வேதனையே நிரம்பியிருந்தது.

சற்று நேரத்தில் வரவேண்டிய உடல் வந்து சேர உள்ளே கொண்டு சென்று சில கடைசி நிமிஷ சடங்குகளை செய்தார்கள். ஒரே அழுகை சத்தம். சற்று நேரத்தில் உடல் எரிக்க கொடுக்கப்பட்டது என்பதை உணார்த்தும் விதமாக கறுப்பாய் இருந்த அந்த புகை கூண்டில் இருந்து வந்த புகை உணர்த்தியது.

எங்கும் ஒரே வேதனை கலந்த அமைதி.

மழை பிடித்துக் கொண்டது. பெரிய மழை. மழையையும் கிழித்துக் கொண்டு அந்த புகை வானை நோக்கி சென்றது. ஒரு விதமான வாசனை காற்றில் நிரம்பியிருந்தது.

அடுத்து வரவேண்டிய உடல் வர தாமதமானதால் எங்களை அடுத்து அனுப்பினார்கள். எல்லா சடங்குகளையும் அருகே இருந்து பார்த்தேன். அந்த பிராமாண்டமான கட்டிடத்தின் உள்ளே உள்ள ஒரு பெரிய ஹாலில் இருந்த ஒரு மேடையில் உடலை வைத்து சடங்குகளை செய்தார்கள்.

சுற்றியிருந்த சுவற்றை பார்த்தேன் கருப்பாய் அழுக்கு பிடித்து இருந்தது. வெளியே மழை பொட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. போடப்பட்டிருந்த விளக்குகளின் பிரகாசமும் அங்கு நிலவிய அந்த வேதனையை போக்க முடியவில்லை.

சற்று நேரத்தில் நாங்கள் கொண்டு சென்றவரின் உடலும் மற்றொரு மிகப்பரிய ஹாலில் இருந்த ஒரு பெரிய அடுப்புக்குள் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது.

அதற்குள்ளாக அடுத்த உடல் வந்து சேர அழுகையின் ஓலம் ஓயவில்லை அங்கே.

அங்கே சற்று கவனித்தால் அந்த சுடுகாடின் சுற்றுப்புற சுவற்றை தாண்டிய அடுத்த அங்குலத்தில் அந்த சோகம் இல்லை. மக்கள் அவரவர் வேலைகளில் மும்முரமாயிருந்தார்கள். அங்கே அந்த சோகம் இல்லை.

ஆனால் இந்தப்புறமோ அழுகையும் வேதனையும்.

சில இடங்கள் சந்தோஷமான விஷ்யங்களுக்காகவே ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுவிடுகின்றன. அந்த இடங்கள் பாக்கியம் செய்தவை. அங்கே எப்பொழுதும் சிரிப்பொலியும் சந்தோஷமும் தான். உதாரணம் திருமண மண்டபங்கள்.

ஆனால் சில இடங்கள் சந்திப்பது எப்பொழுது வேதனையையும் சோகத்தையும் தான். இன்னும் ஆண்டுகள் பலவானாலும் அங்கே கேட்கப் போவது மரண ஓலம் தான். அந்த இடங்கள் எல்லாம் சபிக்கப்பட்ட இடங்களைப்போல மேலும் மேலும் வேதனைகளையே காண்கின்றன.

சில நேரங்களில் மனிதர்களிலும் அப்படி தான். சிலர் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்களாய் எப்பொழுது வேதனையையே காண நேரிடுகிறது.

What Dreams May Come

I started watching this movie a week back with lot of expectations. My expectations was for a heart warming story but 30 minutes into the movie I felt the movie was too surreal for me and I couldn't understand what was happening. I switched it off.

Now today I thought I will give it one more try and found the movie to be pretty interesting. The first half does wander without any meaning and the way the story moves to past and present does irritate initially. But once we get into the story it gets very interesting.

Visually I can say I have never seen a movie like this. We can even compare it to Avatar. Awesome settings.

The plot is about a highly debatable topic of life after death. They set their own rules and play by that. The movie doesn't get spiritual at any point of time. Robin Williams as usual fits into the role easily as it is about a loser who realizes what he could have done better but only after his death.

Towards the end I felt a sad ending must have made a great impact than the current one they have.

Initially when you see death after death it could be a turn off but dont give up as the plot gets interesting in the second half.

Petrol

Today communist party was able to prove that they are also alive by calling for a "bandh".

If someone achieves something by threatening will the relationship be smooth after getting that? The one who succumbed to the threat will be waiting for a chance to payback and the one who received will always be looking behind his back.

The opposition party which is conducting this bandh should come up with a solution on how to reduce the petrol price and how to contain inflation rather than asking for a bandh.

But everyone knows this is just an eyewash.

Now when we look at petrol I sometimes feel petrol is infact consumed more than water. I dont know how they are able to extract so much petrol when water has dried up. The day it happens might be a good day in one angle.
