Heathers

I was watching Friends season 7 and there comes an episode where Rachel talks about kissing a girl during her college friend and the friend indeed was beautiful. At that time I just noted to find out who it was.

The next day randomly I chose the movie Heathers for a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised for couple of reasons. One the movie featured the same actress whose name I wanted to check out from Friends and two the movie itself was a different experience.

The movie had a chick film look all the way but dealt with some very scary moments. The movie features Winona Ryder, who is absolutely gorgeous. Christian Slater who plays the male lead reminded me our own Sharukh Khan. There is very high probability Khan as picked up some mannerisms from Slater.

The movie revolves around the life of teenage folks in a school and there are in total three Heathers in the movie. The movie dealt with Suicides and Murders in a very different way without making it look gory. In fact it gives it a comic feel.

The movie also reminded me of the Japanese movie Suicide which dealt with Suicide in a serious manner.

Confusion

There are lot of things to write about but at the same time there is nothing much to write about. Whatever I am going to say has already been said and its difficult to be non repetitive.

How can there be a post without my favorite topic Chennai. It just drizzled in Chennai and Chennai transforms into Venice. For the water starved Chennaites rains brings misery instead of cheer. When you wake up and notice its raining outside you can already feel that sick feeling in your stomach.

Traffic comes to standstill and roads have potholes that can trip T-Rex.

On Kochadaiiyaan teaser, to be frank I never had any hopes that this movie will even see daylight. I still feel the same as we haven't been shown anything significant. There can be two reasons why nothing is being revealed. One the film has really come out magnificently and they genuinely want to maintain secrecy, two there is no movie except for 2 or 3 stills and 10 sec teaser. It's time to see some really good movie from Rajinikanth which hasn't been happening for sometime.

Chennai updates

For the past few days its been raining during evenings in Chennai. The day time temperature has also reduced drastically. This is not usual.for a city like Chennai. The only complaint I have is the roads are a total mess and it is very difficult to drive through. But for a water starved city like Chennai I think its better to welcome the rains than complaining.

Schindler's List

Schindler's list impressed me the first time I watched it. I recently bought bluray version of the movie and re-watched it last Sunday and it still had the same impact. It is my most favorite movie from Spielberg's stable. I have always had difficulty in distinguishing films by Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. Only when I watched it this Sunday I realised that both of them had worked together in this movie.

It is sad that Ralph Fiennes didn't receive an Oscar for his portrayal of Amon. It was mind blowing scary performance. That too considering the fact Waltz received Oscar for Inglorious Basterds which was also an performance to match Fiennes.

When we realise that there is still an entire generation which is alive only because of what Oskar Schindler did it just makes us want to do more for people who are in need of help.

There are so many memorable moments from the movie and the last scene where Schindler gets emotional, feeling that he could have done more despite saving 1200 Jews is the most memorable one.

Amour

Michael Haneke the name induces in you an uncomfortable feeling. The director of the movie Funny Games which cannot be forgotten easily. But as I had already read about Amour I knew this will not be as frightening as Funny Games. In fact I was prepared to cry my heart out.

The movie treads on the same path which movies with similar theme follows. The actors were terrific and yes they are veterans so I am not even fit to discuss about their acting prowess.

The movie from the word go starts on a depressing note and follows the same. Your heart does go out for both of them. The ending was something unexpected but reminded me a lot about a scene from the movie I am Legend.

There are many scenes which are difficult to understand. I could see in IMDB board people are giving lot of interpretations for those scenes. Unless the director himself comes and comments we will not know what he meant by some of those scenes.

But this is not a movie for everyone.  I have witnessed a person deteriorate the same way as the leading lady in this movie deteriorates. It is very painful for both the parties.

If you like movies which effectively conveys the sadness then this movie is for you.

First Road Trip

This weekend went on my first longest road trip and that too with no one to guide. But google came to my rescue. I just love google maps it is highly dependable.

There was a wedding of my colleague at Kurinjipadi and I decided it was time for my first road trip. A friend who was supposed to join me had to back out at the last minute and I had to make the critical go/no go decision and I decided to go.

I was planning to go through ECR but since the friend didnt join me I decided to take the Tindivanam route. After filling my cars tank full I hit the GST. I started at 2 and there was less traffic luckily for me and I crossed Tambaram and crossed the toll and took Chengelpet by pass. NH 45 is awesome first time I enjoyed driving. I was going steadily at 80 and vehicles were overtaking me. There was another toll before Tindivanam and after crossing it there was one more toll. After that there was a board which said Tanjaore/Kumbakonam to left and Villupuram and Trichy straight. I was actually looking for NH 45C and there was no road numbers mentioned. I went straight ahead and realised I should have taken the Kumbakonam route and came back for that.

NH 45C goes through Panruti and that road was a nightmare. It was a two lane road with one for incoming and another outgoing traffic. I stopped there for 15 minutes for a coffee break. Once I started I noticed buses and lorries doesn't mind the oncoming traffic they just come on to you. It was 60 kms of pure nightmare in that horrible road. Google was guiding me beautifully and after reaching Vadalur I took left to go to Kurinjipadi. Reached my destination at 6:45 PM. It was 214 Kms till the wedding hall.

Started from there around 8:45 and took the same route.NH 45C was even more dangerous during night but  still I was sriving with more confidence as I knew the route now. Once I reached NH 45 I just took a 5 mins break and reached home around 12:15 AM.

Though it was tiring it was worth it.
